Brent has a broad commercial and equity practice, including disputes involving contracts, trusts, corporations and partnerships, funds and managed investment schemes, real property, confidentiality and restraint of trade.  He also accepts briefs in other areas, including negligence, freedom of information, defamation, inquiries, and public law.

Representative clients include trustees and responsible entities, financial services providers, investors, property developers, defence contractors, telecommunications companies, manufacturers, software developers, mining companies, lessors and lessees, builders, education providers, statutory corporations and public authorities, directors, solicitors, associations and professional bodies.

Previously, Brent practised as a solicitor in litigation at King & Wood Mallesons and was a judge’s associate in the NSW Court of Appeal.  He has also taught civil procedure, evidence, torts, and advocacy at the University of New South Wales and the University of Sydney.  He is the author of a number of articles, several of which have been cited by Australian courts.  He holds degrees from the University of New South Wales, the University of Sydney, and Columbia Law School.
